Forest Fantasy, Full Day

Come and play with rocks, trees, streams, flowers and flowing waterfalls and create your own fantasy forest! In this fun class, you will learn how to make a miniature forest scene come alive with gleaming fabrics, shimmering fibers, Lutradur leaves and Puff Paint trees and rocks. You will also learn design principles as you work with a wide variety of techniques and products to thoroughly explore the possibilities open to us today. This class takes you from where you are ... to someplace else. All levels. Materials List: $20 materials fee, payable to instructor includes pattern, multiple page handout, Lutradur, iridescent cracked ice, Puff Painted trees and rocks, cellophane, Totally Stable, Angelina and Tintzl fiber, and the use of fabric paints, Shiva paint sticks, metallic paint powers, heat guns and wood burning tools. You will need to bring to class: Fabrics for tree leaves, tree trunks, rocks, water - preferably batiks or blurry hand dyed, NOT calicos. Also, 1 piece of fabric with small clumps of printed flowers. 2-3 pieces Lite Steam a Seam II (not Heat N Bond or heavy fusibles). Sheer fabrics - white opalescent organdie, sparkle organza and/or white tulle, 1/4 yard total or so. Lots of fine glass-headed pins. Rotary cutter and board. Paper & fabric scissors. Scotch or masking tape. Cookie sheet. Glue stick. Stiletto if you have one, or tweezers or seam ripper if you don’t. White garbage bag. 8-1/2” x 11” piece tracing paper (the kind you see through). 8-1/2” x 11” piece freezer paper. Fine white crystal or iridescent glitter. Ultra-fine Sharpie marker. Couple of paint brushes, 1/4” - 1/2” wide. 5 or so plastic throw-away cups for paint or a palette. Apron or wear old clothes. Optional, if you already have them, bring heat gun and/or hair dryer, small portable fan, wood burning tool.

The Deep Blue Sea, Full Day

How do you make the ocean, waves crashing onto rocks, complete with sea foam and spray? Come and learn how to create an ocean, to paint fabric, make rocks and waves, and create depth and the illusion of a moving, flowing ocean using a variety of different techniques that can later be applied to your own, personal ocean scene. Come and play with me! All levels. Materials List: $20 materials fee, payable to instructor, includes multi-page handout and pattern, PFD fabric, fabric paints, cellophane, Totally Stable, specialty fibers and fabrics, iridescent cracked ice, MistyFuse and sheer fabrics (if needed), use of heat guns and wood burning tools. You will also need to bring: Fabrics for the water scene - additional small pieces of blue and white fabric to use under sheers and other substances including some white satins and sheers. Small pieces of fabric for rocks - lighter in the distance, darker up close (batiks and/or hand-dyed fabric work very well, NOT prints of rocks or calicoes). Sheer fabrics - iridescent or white opalescent organdie, sparkle organza. Rotary cutter and board. Paper & fabric scissors. 1 package white-looking Angelina fiber and/or Tintzl (don’t stress if you can’t find this). Lots of glass-headed straight pins. Tall thin candle, candle holder and matches. Small, flat pan to holder water. Ultra fine Sharpie marker. 8-1/2” x 11” piece of tracing paper. 8-1/2” x 11” piece of freezer paper. Glue stick. Stiletto if you have one but a tweezers will do. Iridescent or white very fine glitter (Glamour, if you can find it). 1 white garbage bag. Scotch or masking tape. A couple of paint brushes, 1/4” - 1/2” wide. A couple of Dixie cups or plastic disposable cups for paint. Apron or wear old clothes. 1 or 2 sheets parchment paper (from grocery store). Cookie sheet. Heat gun and wood burning tool only if you have them already.

Creating with Cool Stuff, Full Day

This is a combination hands-on and demonstration workshop where you will first create a small landscape using MistyFuse, metallic paint powders, Shiva paint sticks, Lutradur, Puff Paint, Tyvek, fabric paints, iridescent cracked ice, painted melted cellophane and sheer fabrics, roving, Angelina, Tintzl fibers and more. You will come away with a small, landscape art piece, pinned and ready to sew, and lots of inspiration for new projects. Come and see what you can create as you experiment with cool stuff that will enable you to create waterfalls, trees, clouds, streams and abstract art! All levels. Materials List: Kit fee of $20 includes full instructions and pattern, Puff Painted tree and rocks, Tyvek, iridescent cracked ice, roving, MistyFuse, Lutradur, Totally Stable, Angelina fiber, cellophane and use of fabric paints, metallic paint powders, Shiva paint sticks, some sheer fabrics if needed and glitter glue. Participants will also need to bring: Fabrics: One small piece or fat quarter of dark sky fabric – hand dyed, batik, painted, or just convincing as a dark sky. One small piece of printed flowers you can fussy cut wildflowers or greenery (you just need a couple of inches of this). A few small pieces of sheer or transparent fabrics such as white sparkle organza, white shimmer perle or opalescent organdie. Small pieces of blue and/or white fabric for water, possibly water print, but any blue and white fabrics will do for the stream underling the sheer fabrics.. Other stuff - required: Glue stick, a sheet of Lite Steam a Seam II, 1 piece of tracing paper (the kind you see through to trace designs), 11” x 14” freezer paper, Scotch tape, lots of glass headed straight pins, Ultra fine line permanent Sharpie marker, 5-6 small plastic cups for paint & water, 3-5 small to medium paintbrushes (& fan brush if you have one), apron, fine iridescent (white) glitter (Glamour from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby is great!), White plastic garbage bag, Olfa cutter, small cutting board, ruler, flat metal cookie sheet, paper & fabric scissors including sharp embroidery scissors. Bring the following if you have them already, but do not buy them especially for the class: Heat gun and/or wood burning tool & parchment paper.
