Butterflies in (Free) Motion, Full Day
Thursday, 10/2/2014 - 10/2/2014, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Create a beautiful butterfly wall quilt by fusing the butterflies in my pattern to a background and adding movement and texture with free motion quilting. Fusing makes this class fun and easy. You will learn machine quilting tricks to complete this colorful wall hanging. A kit (hand dyed fabric and pattern) takes the worry out of fabric selection. We will conduct a series of exercises in which you will create free form quilting designs without marking or templates. You will learn an easy method of machine quilting and be successful doing it. All levels. Materials List: Kit, $30 payable to instructor, includes butterfly pattern, 1 yard hand-dyed fabric, sheet with free form quilting designs. Bring sewing supplies including paper & fabric scissors, machine embroidery threads, pins, Teflon appliqué sheet, 2 yards fusible web, pencil, fabric-batting-fabric sandwich (20” x 20”, preferably light color) to practice free-motion quilting. Background fabric for the butterfly quilt (1 yard for 1 butterfly, 2 yards for 3 butterflies, each butterfly measures 18” x 26”). And last, but not least, a sewing machine in good working order. It doesn’t have to be a fancy machine as long as you can either lower or cover the feed dogs for free motion embroidery and quilting. Marjan recommends Topstitch needles. A darning foot is a must, too. Sewing machine required.
