Curved Log Cabin, Full Day
Thursday, 3/27/2014 - 3/27/2014, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
WOW! Can you believe the comeback of the Log Cabin? Some traditions are just too good to let go. Now we have made it curve! The curves are created by using different size logs. The logs can be made from your stash or with fat quarters or a combination of both. You can do this scrappy or very planned, your choice. Beginners as well as advanced quilters are equally intrigued with this design. The pattern possibilities for the log cabin are just endless, so come make your blocks and play with the plentiful potential designs. See you on the curve! All levels. Materials List: Curved Log Cabin pattern fee $8, payable to instructor. Sewing machine and regular sewing supplies, extension cord & power strip. Thread and filled bobbins – gray or neutral. Rotary cutting supplies, including rulers, we will “true up” after each round, 3”, 4-1/2” & 6”. Iron and pressing surface, Mary Ellen’s Best Press clear starch if you would like. A reducing glass (peep hole ) and small design wall. Fabrics: Light fabric – 2-1/2 yards if using all one color light or 10 fat quarters if using different lights or lots from your stash. 1 yard for the center squares. Dark fabric – from your stash bring a variety of mediums and darks or 10 medium to dark fat quarters. Backing 4-1/2 yards. Binding 1 yard. Quilt measures approximately 55” x 66”; block size 5-1/2” finished. Pre-Cutting: Bring your basket of scraps! Separate them into lights and darks. Center Squares -- cut (2) 1-1/2” strips, re-cut into 1-1/2” squares; bring remaining fabric to class. Light Logs – the light logs are cut 1” (my white fabric). Dark logs -- the dark logs are cut 1-1/2” (my dark/medium fabrics). Sewing machine required.

Confetti, Full Day
Friday, 3/28/2014 - 3/28/2014, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Scraps, scraps and more scraps! Do you love scrap quilts? Do you have a stash? Then this class is for you! This quilt can use your stash or you may use your favorite color palette. We will be using 2” squares and strips with a background fabric. You may even choose to use different background fabrics. You will learn tips for cutting and stitching as well as fast piecing techniques. Your colorful squares will then be set on point. Come with your fabrics pre-cut and just relax and sew all day! This is just a fun quilt to make. All levels.
Materials List: Pattern,$8 payable to the instructor, correct change appreciated. Sewing machine, regular sewing supplies. Extension cord or power strip. Thread and filled bobbins, gray or neutral. Rotary mat, cutter and rulers. Iron and pressing surface. Fabrics: Scraps, scraps and more scraps. Finished quilt approximately 76” x 90” / Finished block 4-1/2”. 3 yards total of scraps for blocks and middle border. 4 yards background for blocks, setting triangles, Border #1 and Border #2. 4 yards of blue (or another color) for Border #2, Border #3 and binding. 6-1/4 yards backing fabric. Queen size batting. *You may want to get the four patches pieced then “audition” fabric for the border and binding. The pattern includes two other border possibilities. You may also want to finish the top and then find your backing. Pre-Cutting: Assorted 2” Scrap Squares: 1,072 of 2” scrap squares, but don’t count – you’ll be amazed how quickly the quilt will grow! You may wish to sew a 2” medium strip to a 2” dark strip and then re-cut into 2” segments. I used this method for many of the two patches - I used 11” strips, not 45” in order to have fewer segments of the same combinations. Remember, “Variety is the spice of life.” Background Fabric: (396) 2 x 3-1/2” rectangles for the blocks*. (10) 7-5/8” squares cut twice on the diagonal for the setting triangles and 4 corner triangles*. (15) 5-1⁄2” squares cut twice on the diagonal for Border #2. (2) 3⁄4” x 60” strips for Border #1 TOP and BOTTOM**. (2) 1-3⁄4” x 73-1⁄2” strips for Border #1 SIDES*. *Cut these 2 cuts for the class, wait on the other background cuts. **Verify length by measuring quilt through the middle, side to side and top to bottom. Blue Border Fabric: (15) 8-1⁄2” squares cut twice on the diagonal for Border #2. (2) 4-1⁄2” x 77” Border #3 TOP and BOTTOM. (2) 4-1⁄2” x 81” Border #3 SIDES. Binding: 2-1⁄4” strips. This is a great quilt to use as a fabric swap. Gather your friends, share your fabric and enjoy a scrappy quilting adventure!
The more variety in fabrics, the more colorful the palette will be. Use your scraps and have fun! Sewing machine required.
