Esterita Austin

International award winning quilt maker, designer and teacher, Esterita Austin is best known for her portraiture and stone series as well as her mono printing techniques. Her quilt “The Well” was a prize winning piece in the American Museum of Folk Art’s international competition. Her work has been published in numerous periodicals and books. One of her international venues is a yearly workshop in the hills of Tuscany, which not only features a quilt workshop, but painting and cooking as well. Mono Printing on Shers, Full Day

Create original organza mono prints with this new and spontaneous technique. Layering multiple prints creates an original composition that adds depth of field to your work. Anyone, from beginner to advanced, can succeed at this technique. Add one more tool to your artistic arsenal! All levels.
Materials List: Kit, $30 payable to instructor, includes Jacquard Lumiere paint, optional patterns, organza yardage, palette, use of brushes, 2.5 yds of Mistyfuse. Pow-erful Portraits, Full Day

Create a dramatic portrait that Rembrandt would envy. Using value effectively is the key to making this face leap off the surface. You will be provided with an 11” x 17” pattern and be taught an easy fusing technique. A demonstration of a few well-placed strokes of paint will put the finishing touches to an expressive portrait. All levels.
Materials List: Kit, $35 payable to instructor, includes 1/2 yd hand dye for the face, Transdoodle, Mistyfuse, freezer paper, parchment, scrubbie, textile paints, use of brushes, palette. LECTURE

Portraits have been a source of inspiration to artists for centuries. Esterita will take you on a photographic journey that begins with taking an expressive photograph discussing lighting, angles and settings through interpreting the image in fabric. She will cover her technique step by step and show how, by adding textile paint, one can achieve greater depth and dimension.
