Shimmering Dragonflies & Sparkling Flowers, Full Day
Thursday, 4/30/2015, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Learn my easy techniques for producing floral quilts with oversized images. In this one-day workshop, you will use an original flower and or dragonfly drawing provided by the instructor ($10 fee). We will translate this into a fabric collage using contemporary methods and innovative art techniques such as fusing, free-motion machine embroidery, thread painting and bobbin drawing. Then we will add sparkle with iridescent Angelina fibers, foiling and machine embroidery threads. See Marjan’s quilts at www.marjankluepfel.com. All levels. Materials List: Fabric pieces (fat quarter size or larger) for the flowers and leaves, preferably batiks or hand dyed fabrics (for sale during the workshop, $20/yard). You will need one yard of background fabric, backing and batting. Embellishments such as machine embroidery threads, yarn, beads and Angelina fiber (for sale during class, $5). 2 yards of fusible web with paper backing such as WonderUnder or Steam-a-Seam. Small piece of tear-away stabilizer. Paper & pencil. Sewing supplies. Small iron (optional). Teflon pressing sheet. And last, but not least, a sewing machine in good working order. It doesn’t have to be a fancy machine as long as you can either lower or cover the feed dogs for free motion embroidery and quilting. A darning foot is a must, too. Sewing machine optional.
