Mancuso Show Management partnering with Quilt for Kids to introduce a child friendly quilting class
With the arrival of the 25th annual Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza (PNQE), comes excitement, fond memories of shows past, and lots and lots of quilts. From September 13-16, the quilt show will be held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania. This big milestone in the Extravaganza’s history marks a special year for PNQE. For this reason, show producer Mancuso Show Management has added a brand-new component to the long-standing festival.
For the last 25 years PNQE has given quilters a place to nurture creativity and be inspired by the work around them, which is why Mancuso Show Management wants you to share your love of quilting with those you love most. In celebration of PNQE, the festival will be presenting an intro to quilting workshop that you and your child, grandchild, niece or nephew can enjoy!
Veteran quilters Rachel Rossi of Rachel Rossi Designs and Linda Arye President of non-profit Quilts for Kids will be the instructors for this novel intro to quilting workshop. In the class titled, Share Your Talent with the Next Generation, children ages 10 to 16 can learn the basic skills of quilting. With a class on Saturday, September 15th, 1-4pm, and another on Sunday, September 16th, 12-3pm, students can pick an afternoon that works best for them!
The class will teach children how to select fabric, practice basic sewing machine skills, and how to utilize an iron. It will be a fun and informative way for everyone to get involved for the day! Students will have the opportunity to take their newfound skills to create a simple quilt top. This quilt will then be donated to the organization Quilts for Kids, which is dedicated to brightening the lives of children who suffer from abuse or life-threatening illnesses with patchwork quilts. Not only will it be a lasting experience for the student, but a small gesture that will help comfort a child in need.
To reserve a space in the workshop please call the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza at (215) 862-5828, Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm. There is no charge for this workshop, however the accompanying adult must pay the quilt festival’s general admission at the door. Any child under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop. For more information on the workshop and materials list visit www.quiltfest.com.
