The Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza Celebrating its Silver Anniversary in 2018

September 13-16, 2018
Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, Oaks, PA

25 in color

You are invited to celebrate the world of quilting and the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza’s 25th Anniversary as the event returns to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA, September 13-16, 2018. PNQE remains a spectacular show of creation, innovation, and education where show-goers will enjoy a unique and beautiful display of over 600 quilts and works of textile and wearable art from across the globe. Plus, as past visitors know, the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza features an amazing Merchants Mall filled to the brim with booths, offering everything the quilter, needlecrafter, textile artist and home sewers need to quench their creative thirsts. The Extravaganza, the largest and most comprehensive quilt festival in a state that is known for its rich history of quilting, will be dishing up all the ingredients needed for a successful quilt show.

Talent, creativity, and expertise surround PNQE …

Quilters have the opportunity to display their quilts at PNQE by submitting works to the annual juried quilt competition. This year’s quilt competition themed A Day in the Life, asks entrants to tell us what a day in the life of a quilt artist is like. This competition will include magnificent works by some of the nation’s finest quilt and fiber artists. Attendees can witness these quilts including the international entries and select U.S. winner from the 2018 World Quilt Competition. Plus, you can take part in judging by casting your vote for the Viewer’s Choice Award. The winner will be announced on www. quiltfest.com following the close of the Extravaganza.

A renowned faculty will offer a wide variety of workshops for the beginner to the more advanced quilter and textile artist. Opportunities to learn new techniques and skills will be available with a wide array of workshops presented by the 2018 faculty that includes Sarah Bond (PA), Augusta Cole (VA), Gyleen Fitzgerald (MD), Marjan Kluepfel (CA), Deborah Konchinsky (PA), Dierdra McElroy (CA), Bobbie Bergquist (NH), Beth Dix (NC), Joan Jones (NJ), Joyce Teng (TX), Erin Underwood (MD), Marilyn Urciuoli (NH), Judy Donovan (PA), Phyllis Twigg Hatcher (MD), and Jamie Wallen (IN).

Augusta Cole’s lecture, A Collage of Tricks, Tips and Tidbits will be presented on Friday afternoon at the event. This lecture promises to entertain you with fun, friends, laughs, tricks, tips and tidbits every quilter should know. This event is included with Registration or General Admission.

Back again this year will be the entertaining runway fashion shows! PNQE Goes Fashion – is included in your show entrance or registration. The two Fashion Shows are both moderated by award-winning wearable, bead and fiber artist Judy Donovan. Thursday afternoon, Judy will present her own work in Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Art, Music & Humor in Clothing! Join Judy as she moderates Saturday afternoon’s SewBatik Challenge Fashion Show. Entries to the challenge will be viewed, judged, and awarded Judge’s Choice, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice. Come to one or both – you’ll be glad you did!

Also, for your viewing pleasure, there will be over twenty special exhibitions on display including works by local guilds. These guilds, The Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild, Quilters of the Round Table, and the Lancaster Modern Quilt Guild, will be providing the show with quilts created by members of their guild. The exhibits will showcase the unique styles and adaptions of the different quilt groups. Among these exhibits, there are international entries and select United States winners from the 2018 World Quilt Competition. These beautiful works of quilt art from across the globe are a must see!

Another special exhibit that the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza is honored to present is the contemplative juried exhibit of fiber art titled “Threads of Resistance.” Created by the Artist Circle Alliance, this contemporary exhibit is one that addresses current issues Americans are facing in this day and age. It is a great example of how quilting is an art form that can not only provoke emotions but communicate different points of view.

Certified Appraiser Phyllis Twigg Hatcher will be in attendance, appraising new and old quilts Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to any registrant who signs up for an appointment. Patrons will have the chance to explore the Merchants Mall inside the show, which includes 50+ vendors from across the country. Bringing the latest products in the quilt world to PNQE, exhibitors provide everything from fabric to thread, needles to sewing machines, and patterns to batting!

With all the products, workshops, and exhibits the quilt festival offers, the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza continues to be at the center of it all for quilt, fiber, wearable and textile art. Join Mancuso Show Management as they celebrate 25 great years in the Greater Philadelphia area!
