The Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza offers a Show, Travel & Hotel Package to make your visit to the “Extrav” carefree. Travelling by deluxe charter coach from Hampton, Virginia to Oaks, Pennsylvania, your first adventure will be in scenic Lancaster County for shopping, a Pennsylvania Dutch lunch and a short tour of the Amish countryside before heading to the show.

Your itinerary of activities at the Extravaganza include a Fashion Show and two Lectures. Plus, you’ll have time to explore the show on your own. You may also choose to sign up for a full or half-day workshop (at the cost published in the PNQE brochure) on Thursday and/or Friday. You will be sent PNQE workshop details as soon as they are available. Thursday features a group dinner. On Friday evening, your tour bus will transport you to the charming town of Phoenixville, PA. Check out of the hotel on Saturday, September 16, ready to go home and create your own quilted masterpiece!

Fashion Makes a Triumphant Return to PNQE

Celebrating 24 years, the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza returns to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Oaks, PA) this September 14-17.  Two outstanding fashion shows will, once again, be part of this not-to-miss event.

Award-winning fiber and textile artist, Vickie Clontz, of Annie’s
Vickie_6345_03Keepsakes, will be the moderator of both fashion shows.  On
Thursday, she presents her “Celebrating Art & Fashion” creations at 2:00pm.  Inspired by nature and art from around the world, she will
explore a wide variety of textures, hues and shapes in this captivating collection of wearable art. Join us as we embrace our unity in creativity and applaud our diversity in individuality on our journey of love, learning and illumination. There will also be a Special Accessories in this cultural blend of clothing created by the “Art Tarts” art quilt group of Charlotte, NC. Saturday at 2:00pm, Vickie turns her attention to the presentation of the SewBatik Challenge Fashion Show.  This challenge was created last year by Bruce and Diane Magidson of SewBatik in SewBatikFabric17conjunction with Mancuso Show Management and asks entrants to be inspired to create day to day street wear or runway style garments.  This year, the challenge fabric is Paisley Esprit – Midnight Sand Storm (pictured left).  Vickie Clontz will award the Judge’s Choice prize to the top entry as well as an Honorable Mention ribbon and the audience will vote for the garment to win People’s Choice. In 2017, the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza celebrates its 24th year. This popular event has grown into a “destination” for quilt, textile, fiber and wearable artists. The Extravaganza is the largest and most comprehensive quilt festival in a state known for its rich history of quilting. Held September 14-17 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks (Valley Forge area), PA, PNQE will be dishing up all the ingredients needed for a successful quilt show.

This year’s national competition theme is Not Fade Away, 3003achallenging quilt artists to describe how they will pass on the art of quilting to the next generation. In addition, the show’s special exhibitions will fill the aisles with hundreds of works by quilt and textile artists from around the globe. This expansive venue offers plenty of room for the Extravaganza’s mega Merchants Mall. Anyone who has attended in the past will attest to the vast variety of merchandise offered by quality companies.

The 2017 teaching staff at the Extravaganza is sure to enlighten many a student. From beginner to advanced there will be something for everyone. Presenting this year are Frieda Anderson (Illinois), Pepper Cory (North Carolina), Paula Golden (Virginia), Dierdra McElroy (California), David Sirota (New Hampshire), Sarah Bond (Pennsylvania) and more! In addition, and NEW for 2017, are longarm workshops taught by Lisa Calle (Pennsylvania), Jill Churchill (Pennsylvania) and Valerie Schlake (Virginia). Also, certified appraiser Phyllis Twigg Hatcher will be on-site providing quilt appraisals by appointment.

Lectures will also be featured at PNQE. Sarah Bond will present “Many Quilts, One Family: Quilts from my Grandmothers” on Thursday afternoon, September 14. We are also excited to have David Sirota back for a second year in Oaks. In addition to his workshops, he will speak on Friday afternoon at 2pm – “What Makes a Quilter Tick? A Humorous Look in the Mirror.” David’s lecture is included with show registration or general admission.

As if all this isn’t enough to keep you busy, the PNQE Fashion Shows 2016-09-16 14.15will be returning for a second exciting year! Thursday will feature Vickie Clontz – Celebrating Art & Fashion. The SewBatik Challenge Fashion Show will headline on Saturday afternoon. Both shows will be moderated by Vickie Clontz, and fashion show admission is included with your show admission or registration.

Just Announced at World Quilt New England – Longarm Workshops

Longarm classes have been newly added to the festival’s workshop line up!  Well-known instructors Barbara Persing and Judy Engime will present these fabulous new additions to World Quilt New England, to take place August 17-19, 2017 at the Radisson Center in Manchester, New Hampshire.

meJudy Engime, who opened Olde City Quilts in 2006, has been dedicated to growing interest in long arm quilting by providing machine rental and instruction for all skill levels. Judy strives to inspire beginners and especially enjoys replacing fear of failure with fun!

Judy will teach two, 3-hour workshops; one on Friday afternoon, August 18 and the second on Saturday morning, August 19. Both workshops are geared to the beginning longarm quilter: Let’s Get Started – Free Motion Focus, and Let’s Get Started with Rulers. Judy’s workshops are limited to 12 students each, so sign up early if you are eager to Get Started!

 Barbara PersingBarbara Persing, who started her longarm quilting business in 2000, is an author, designer, professional longarm quilter/ instructor and award winning quilt artist. Her customers appreciate her unique ability to develop quilting designs that highlight the personality of their quilts. She has taught longarm classes at local and national venues and values the opportunity to share her experience with students.

You Can Feather is a 4-hour workshop for the beginner and intermediate level longarmer on Thursday morning, August 17. Barbara’s Borders, Sashing and More (Thursday, August 17) and Fill the Spaces (Friday, August 18) are also 4-hour workshops, but are suitable for all levels of longarm quilting experience. Keep in mind that Fill the Spaces is limited to just 12 students.

World Quilt New England Celebrates 15 Years of International Quilting

Bringing the world of quilting to the city of Manchester, the 15th annual World Quilt New England returns to the Radisson Center of New Hampshire, Thursday, August 17 through Saturday, August 19, 2017. The event is open between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm each day.

Quilt and sewing enthusiasts will once again be able to view the 9505aunique and beautiful entries of the  World Quilt Competition. Quilts from 10 nations will compete for the coveted Best of World title. The competition entries, judged at the Manchester venue, will be on display for the first time in the United States. After New Hampshire, selected U.S. winners and all of the international quilt entries tour to other Mancuso Show Management venues in Pennsylvania, California and Florida. An internationally known faculty will offer quilt and textile related activities including workshops and lectures that will be presented at this year’s event. The 2017 faculty includes Christine Porter from the United Kingdom, and instructors from across the United States including Esterita Austin (NY), Marjan Kluepfel (CA), RaNae Merrill (NY), David Sirota (NH), Bobbie Bergquist (NH), Debora Konchinsky (PA), Michele Galloway (PA), Erin Underwood (MD), and Joyce Fischer (NY). Joyce will also be offering appraisals during the event.

In addition, Mancuso Show Management is thrilled to present for the first time at World Quilt New England, several longarm quilting workshops sponsored by Innova/Olde City Quilts. Judy Engime (NJ) and Barb Persing (PA) will offer longarm classes for all levels.

Quilters attending the event will not want to miss the special luncheon and lecture presented by Christine Porter. Also, be sure to attend the World Quilt Panel & Forum Ice Cream Social; attendees can learn about the instructors and join in the conversation about the hot issues of today’s quilting world.
