PoconoElna

Pocono Sew & Vac, major sponsor of The Quilt & Sewing Fest of New Jersey is generously providing Elna sewing machines for participants in three of the Fest’s workshops. No need to carry your sewing machine to class – the machines will be set-up and ready for you to use in the following workshops:

Storm at Sea – No More Tears Method© (WS #001) will be StormAtSea1presented by David Sirota on Friday, March 3 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Paper piecing will never be the same! Be on your way to creating a beautiful and versatile 30” x 30” Storm at Sea wall hanging using a revolutionary paper piecing technique. No More Tears© takes much less time than traditional paper piecing and it enables you to use your paper pattern over and over again. Once you know the technique, you can use it on any paper piecing project. In class you will learn the basics of paper piecing, the No More Tears© method, and Storm at Sea basics plus tips and tricks for precise construction.

Chevron Star – No More Tears Method© (WS #002), also taught by David Sirota, will be on Saturday, March 4, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  ChevronStar

Whether you love or hate paper piecing, this class is designed to
help you create the beautiful and versatile Chevron Star quilt. You’ll be learning the revolutionary No More Tears© method of paper piecing, which cuts your time in half, enabling you to create even more quilts. Don’t believe it? Well, join the class and find out! The design lends itself to scrappy or planned fabric choices. You decide which you’d like to do. In this workshop, you will learn pattern preparation, the No More Tears© Technique, and block and quilt top construction.

Jessica Skultety is presenting Orange Peels and Improv (WS #003) on Thursday, March 9, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.SkultetyOrangeB

Orange peels are beautiful and striking traditional blocks that can be
manipulated in exciting ways. We’ll pair them with “planned” improvisational piecing to make a scrap-friendly baby quilt (44” x 55”) that you’ll be proud to show off! You’ll learn the “stitch and flip” method for making orange peels for machine appliqué. Then, you’ll use background fabric and Jess’s trademark improvisation technique to stitch them into a modern quilt top uniquely your own. Join us!

Hometown Art at World Quilt Florida

World Quilt Florida at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center, January 19-21, 2017, will host an amazing collection of special exhibits from around the country plus the international entries from the World Quilt Competition: On Tour. This year, guilds from Florida are taking part in World Quilt Florida in the best way they know how … by creating quilts. World Quilt Florida is proud to include these special exhibits of hometown art:

How do we spell Florida? … Everglades Park – Hibiscus Quilt Guild of South Florida
hibiscus-river-otterA guild member picked a phrase based on Florida themes and then each member picked a letter and made a quilt depicting something in reference to the phrase that starts with that letter. 2016’s phrase is “Everglades Park”. Pictured: River Otter

MASKarade – Gold Coast Quilters’ Guild

maskaradeMasks have been used for their expressive power since antiquity and come in many forms: Ritual masks, on action heroes and heroines,  masks in fashion,  pageants and carnivals that have played out for centuries. Even in the animal world, Mother Nature has given many animals  mask-like faces. Quilts pictured were created by Beverly Fine, Jane Gavlick and Candice Phelan.

Miami Art Quilters at The National Day of the Cowboy
cowboyswebNational Day of the Cowboy was set aside for the preservation of the pioneer spirit and  heritage, and the promotion of cowboy culture. As part of this celebration the Miami Art Quilters have displayed their cowboy inspired works for many years. Each year participation and authenticity has increased. Quilts pictured are by Cheri Ucci and Arlene.

Orlando Modern Quilt Guild

The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild  is a non-profit organization formed to inspire and support our members in their enjoyment of and growth in quilt making. We promote an interest in and appreciation of the art of quilt making. More information can be found at  theorlandomodernquiltguild.blogspot.com.

Stitched Together – South Florida Modern Quilt Guild
The quilts in this exhibit were made by members of the guild during the first year of its existence as a modern quilt guild. The guild’s interest is in modern quilting, which can include many approaches. Modern quilting, like all art, changes, grows and adapts from quilter to quilter as they find their own voices. listen to the magic whispers of old trees.”           ~ Author Unknown
bernie-mayer-photoTrees shelter us. Trees provide life and sustenance for us.  Trees inspire us.  The Quilters Innovative Design group selected Trees as our yearly challenge.  The topic provides artists with an opportunity to create, experiment and perhaps have a bit of fun in the quilting medium.
