Not Fade Away – Quilt Competition
The twenty-fourth annual Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza held September 14-17, 2017 was more “Extravagant” than ever. Show-goers, workshop students, vendors, and the competition entrants enjoyed an outstanding event.
Competition entrants vied for awards and prizes. With an incredible breath of outstanding entries, the judges had a difficult time selecting the winners. However, Frieda Anderson, Bobbie Bergquist, Pepper Cory, Paula Golden, and Dierdra McElroy were up to the task. We think you’ll agree that their selections were on target! See all the winners here.
Of course, the best of show winner is always the big news on opening day. This year, for the first time, a Mid-Century Mod entry took the top prize in the competition themed Not Fade Away. Atomic Synergy by Deborah Levy is pictured:
Deborah told quiltfest, “Atomic Synergy is my first foray into the modern quilting movement. This original design of wonky pieced blocks and applique blends my love of chemistry and the mid-century modern era. The simplicity of the design and all that negative space to play with made this an enjoyable process.”
Respite by Sandy Curran was The BERNINA 1st Runner-Up Best of Show:
Respite is a departure from the majority of Sandy’s quilts. She told us, “After a wonderful workshop, I took a break from the realistic, representational quilts I usually do to just play with color and shape. I loved it so much, I did it three times!”
