Artistic Innovation with “Fabulous Freestyle Fashion”

Artistic Innovation with “Fabulous Freestyle Fashion”
at the Pacific International Quilt Festival XXIV Fashion Show

The Pacific International Quilt Festival XXIV held at the Santa Clara Convention Center October 15-18, 2015, explores advances in techniques, cultural diversity and rise of artistic expression. What better way to express yourself than with a fabulous wardrobe! Not only is there a wonderful collection of garments in the wearable art competition displayed on the floor of the show, but on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 pm the catwalk will come alive with the ever popular PIQF Fashion Show. Karen D. Boutte organizes and moderates this year’s fashion showcase, “Fabulous Freestyle Fashion.” Let the “Quilt Diva” entertain you, and the unique and beautiful clothes inspire you.

Nothing short of spectacular, “Fabulous Freestyle Fashion” will introduce fresh looks at wearable art and is all about you! The show is for everyone who enjoys fun, funky and fashionable wearable art. The fashions are especially selected to ignite your creativity. The show’s exceptional garments, ranging from casual wear to runway haute couture, showcase both the creativity of fashion and inspiration. Attendees won’t be able to resist saying, “Fabulous!”

KarenBoutteQuilters from across the country don’t call Karen D. Boutte the “Quilt Diva” for nothing. Karen is a nationally known instructor, lecturer, author and designer. She started sewing as a child and quilting intrigued her since she saw a Cathedral Window quilt made by her Great Aunt Nora in 1989. Karen was in awe of the beautiful artwork and soon after joined a local quilt guild to find out more about quilting. By the time she retired from her first career in 1997, Karen had developed her skills and expertise in quilting so much that she taught workshops at her local guild. She eventually decided to become a full-time quilt instructor and began teaching at shops, guilds and quilting events. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student having fun discovering their creativity with fabric and thread,” Karen stated.

Karen’s accomplishments include writing a book, Delightful Diva Designs, Wonderful Whimsical Wearables, and she and her work have been featured in several publications over the years.

“I love selecting fabric for a project. The color, texture and design possibilities are endless. Nothing makes my heart sing more than visiting a variety of quilt shops looking for just the right fabric for a new project. I love to collage various fabrics and create story quilts and garments. I use raw edged appliqué, thread painting, beading and lots of embellishments.”
