The twenty-fourth annual Pacific International Quilt Festival held October 15-18, 2015 will again provide quilting fanatics and avid needle crafters with a magnificent display of over 800 quilt, wearable and textile works of art. There are also workshops and lectures offered by a faculty of world-renowned instructors plus the PIQF Merchants Mall offers the best in fabrics, notions, machines, wearable art and everything for the quilter, textile artist and needlecraft enthusiast. Located at the Santa Clara Convention Center in the Greater San Francisco Bay area, this incredible quilt and textile art event is a great way to spend an extended weekend in sunny Santa Clara, California!
This year’s theme for the quilt competition, On Pins & Needles, asks the entrants, “How do you feel while designing and working on a new quilt? Are you on pins & needles as you wait to see what emerges from your stash of fabrics and threads?”
Visitors to the show will view a magnificent exhibition of the finest quilts created by talented artists from across the globe, competing for awards and prizes totaling more than $25,000. The fashionable entries in the Wearable Art Competition will also be on display. The best entries from among these works will win over $4,800 in awards and prizes. In addition to the competition entries, there will be Special Exhibitions of quilts and textile art from around the world. Among them are the international entries and selected U.S. prize winners from the 2015 World Quilt Competition XIX: On Tour as well as exhibits from across the USA, as well as Australia and England. Experience the magical combination of beautiful fabric and amazing talent all under one roof at the Pacific International Quilt Festival!
Not only does this incredible event feature astounding works of art, it also offers a wide array of workshops and lectures presented by a stellar line-up of national and international instructors teaching all levels of quilt, wearable and textile arts. The Festival’s 2015 faculty includes international instructors Gloria Loughman from Australia and England’s Jennie Rayment. Faculty from the U.S. include Allyson Allen (CA), Esterita Austin (NY), Susan Cleveland (MN), Karen Eckmeier (CT), Carole Lyles Shaw (FL), Dierdra McElroy (CA), RaNae Merrill (NY), Linda Schmidt (CA), Terry Waldron (CA), Laura Wasilowski (IL), Bobbie Bergquist (NH), Debora Konchinsky (PA), Ashley Nickels (CA), Virginia Walton (NM), Pat Yamin (NY), Bernina Educator Debbi Lashbrook plus PIQF’s certified appraiser Nancy Bavor.
Also offered at PIQF are a special Quilters Adventure Tour which visits the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, quilting studios in San Francisco and more. Also, a perennial favorite among show-goers is the PIQF Fashion Show, moderated by Karen Boutte, on Friday evening, October 16. Plus, Thursday evening is Quilt-O night – “the most fun you will ever have at a quilt show.” Sign up early for Quilt-O – it is always an early sell-out!
