Artistic Innovation with “Decade of the Coat”
at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival Fashion Show
The Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center February 22-25, 2018, explores advances in techniques, cultural diversity and the rise of artistic expression. What better way to express yourself than with a fabulous wardrobe! Not only is there a wonderful collection of garments in the wearable art competition displayed on the floor of the show, but on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 pm the catwalk will come alive with the return of the M-AQF Fashion Show. Rachel D. K. Clark and Karen Boutte organize and moderate this fashion showcase titled Decade of the Coat. Let Rachel and the “Quilt Diva” (Karen) entertain you, and the unique and beautiful clothes inspire you.
Nothing short of spectacular, Decade of the Coat will introduce fresh looks at wearable art and is all about you! Join Rachel and Karen to view an amazing collection of coats and jackets featuring eclectic fabric mixes and vibrant colors and hear their stories as well. The show is for everyone who enjoys fun, funky and fashionable wearable art. Especially selected just for M-AQF, the fashions are sure to ignite your creativity. You won’t be able to resist saying, “Fabulous!”
Rachel D. K. Clark is a contemporary folk artist, teacher and lecturer who comes from a long line of sewers. Eclectic fabric mixes, vibrant designs, and a keen sense of humor characterize Rachel’s work. While her garments and quilts can be whimsical, political or a personal statement they always reflect her love of traditional quilt making.
Quilters from across the country don’t call Karen D. Boutte the “Quilt Diva” for nothing. Karen is a nationally known instructor, lecturer, author and designer. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student having fun discovering their creativity with fabric and thread,” Karen stated. “I love selecting fabric for a project. The color, texture and design possibilities are endless. Nothing makes my heart sing more than visiting a variety of quilt shops looking for just the right fabric for a new project.”
